Website Revenue Models

If you have a great idea for a website you may want to think about which revenue model you will follow before taking the next step. It is important to consider revenue models early in the process of creating a profit generating website because the model which you choose may affect the way you decide to present your idea. If you decide to change your revenue model too far into the website creation process, you may not have the flexibility to make the necessary changes. I'll review some popular revenue models here to help with this decision.

Subscription to Content

This revenue model is fairly straight forward. People will pay a monthly subscription to get access to your articles, videos, training or whatever content you produce. One example of a website that uses multiple revenue streams is ESPN.com. In addition to their advertising space, you can get access to exclusive content for a monthly fee. The benefit of this model is that, unlike advertising space, you can have unlimited readership.

Advertising

It is worth noting that within the umbrella of advertising revenue, there are many different ways to organize what you are going to charge. For example you can charge by the "impression." This allows you to have several different ads rotating through your website. Every time an ad is displayed to a visitor, that counts as one "impression." You can also use a pay-per-click, or PPC model. PPC advertising is more expensive because you are only charged after someone has clicked the link on the advertisement. You should only consider PPC if the advertiser has a product or service that is marketable to your niche. Otherwise you may have a low click through rate, which means less cash.

Affiliate Products

With this model you are basically using your website as vehicle to market other people's products. The main advantage here is that you can use another company's established product without having to invest anything in its development. Again, you want to make sure that the product you market makes sense for the people visiting your website. You will only get paid when someone actually makes a purchase. This makes the quality of your traffic all the more important.

These are just a couple of the many revenue models out there for internet business. Admittedly, there are many more but this should give you an idea of the considerations that need to be made.

Use E-Books To Increase Your Visibility And Revenue

If you are a struggling author, coach or speaker waiting to get your book approved and published through a regular publishing house, you may be wasting your time waiting. It is not that the hard-copy books are no longer needed or in demand; rather that the sale of e-books has been on the upswing for the last 5 years or so.

Why E-Books Are Preferred To Hard-Copies?

The answer to this one is a no-brainer. People have moved on to smart phones, tablets, mini computers, blackberries, iPhones and so on. All these gadgets support e-book reading and some of them are best used with audio-books. People no longer carry a bestseller with them for those in-between free time; they would rather buy and download an e-book and read it while they commute to-and-fro work place. It is fast, it is easy and it is convenient.

As an author, coach or speaker you need to reach to your target audience in order to be successful. Your books are your voice and only when that voice reaches the audience that you can make any type of impact or hope for any recognition. Have you see the desk of any editor of a leading publishing house?

It is filled with unread manuscripts waiting to be qualified by the editing team. Most of them end up in return post - or if there is none, in the dustbin. It does not mean you are not good if you are rejected by these famous, high-in-demand publishing houses. What it means that there is no time for anyone to indulge you. Editors in publishing house can and do reject manuscripts for the flimsiest reasons.

This is not the case with e-books. With e-books you have the advantage of being able to have people look your work up whenever you want it. All you need is to put up your matter in the form of an e-book and sell it.

E-Books Are The Coolest Things Ever?

Why should you not buy an e-book on the topic you love most? Whether this e-book is to promote your career as an author, coach or speaker, everything is possible in the virtual world. All you need to do is put it on a platform that people see all over the world such as Amazon.com, eBay.com or Clickbank.com. The moment you posted these e-books on any of these platforms, you will receive free Internet marketing, free promotions and a lot of revenue.

Now, let us look at the simple math: an e-book costs you next to nothing if you write it yourself or outsource it. Yet, it will bring in revenues again and again and again - creating a long chain of residual income that will enhance your fame, your opt-in list and your revenues.

Increase Your AdSense Revenue by Working Smart and Not Too Hard

Even if your website is informational and does not actually sell a product directly, many webmasters are earning good residual income from Google AdSense. It's very easy to add to your site. AdSense ads come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and the colors of the ads can even be adapted so they match your overall color scheme, you simply design, cut and paste.

Most people just cut and paste and hope for the best, and consequently never make more than a few pennies a day from AdSense, even after following the Google AdSense blog and reading everything there is to know about AdSense. After a while many give up with AdSense and try other methods to fill up those small pieces of valuable real estate, which is the space on their blogs and websites.

Unfortunately to earn the big bucks with AdSense - or indeed any type of advertising, the secret is to have lots of websites. If you normally only earn $10 a week from AdSense, then if you have 10 websites, earning $100 a week looks a lot more enticing. Trouble is, could you handle owning 10 websites? There's enough work with one or two, and if you had to outsource the writing of 10 articles every few days, is it actually worth it?

I know people that own hundreds of sites and they make a good living from affiliate ads and Google AdSense. It sounds like a nightmare, but by working smart it is possible.

Of course the secret to success is getting visitors to those sites and working on backlinks and blog commenting and article writing and, oh my - what a lot of work! Too much work for one person, or even two.

You can outsource just about everything, including link building, article writing and blog commenting. If you start making a good income from your AdSense advertising after a while you should decide which task takes you the most time and outsource it, then follow with other tasks that are time-consuming.

The key is to find what works for you. If you have dozens of sites, you can measure how much each blog or site is making by using Google's Channel feature which allows you to monitor each of your site's performance. If a site is getting good traffic but failing to make money, there is always the option to sell it. Many people buy ready-made sites that have some age and traffic.

The secret to doing anything is work smart but not too hard. Easy to say in the beginning but once you find a system that works for you, your AdSense revenue should increase exponentially.
