How to Set Up A Marketing Strategy to Sell Your eBook - Selecting A Channel

Without readers, your eBook will fail. It doesn't matter if you sell it on Kindle, your own website or your favourite corner. A book without a reader -- and that includes eBooks -- is meaningless. The question is how do you get readers? What do you need to do to ensure that people find and buy your eBook?

The answer is marketing.

Marketing is the process by which you find your customer, get in front of them, attract their attention and then present your product. It includes sales and in many ways, it includes how you will deliver the eBook. And it begins before you write our book.

Yes, you heard me right. Marketing your book begins before you write a word. In fact, it begins before you even plan your book.

The whole point of marketing is to sell your eBook or book. Or for that matter, any other related product. It describes how you will make a profit and what the products will be about.

So how do you do it?

Well as I've mentioned it begins long before you write your eBook. Arguably, it begins within the determination of the company strategy. More specifically, it needs you to determine your market or micro-market, your business model, your reader and identify your problem and solution. However, for the purposes of this article I'm going to assign those tasks to company strategy development and instead focus on those tasks that are unique to marketing.

As part of the process of identifying your reader, you will have determined how to gain their attention. Basically, you are asking, "Where are they hanging out?" Typically, these are forums, blogs and magazine sites. YouTube and Google are also two key locations that most readers will visit regularly. However, don't ignore your competition and others who deal with these same customers.

Your job now is twofold. First, you need to determine which of these opportunities you will use in order to gain your readers' attention. While it would be nice to be everywhere your reader is, practicality says you need to choose only a few. After all, you only have a few hours per day. And being on forums and blogs all day is probably not a good use of your time.

The second task is to select the marketing methods you will use. Each of these opportunities or channels has several methods you can use to market through them. For example, article marketing, search engine optimization (SEO) and Google AdWords are three alternatives you can use if you select the Google channel. Of course, not all the methods will be useable. For example, reading and responding to blog posts is a method for addressing the blog channel. However, so is spamming blogs. It isn't very effective and it will soon result in your being banned. But it is a method.

EBook Marketing - Another Underestimated Traffic Source

Let me share with you today a fantastic traffic source that is being VERY much underrated...

Are you creating quality articles for your business providing value to the community? Are you submitting these articles to Article Directories? Are you sharing these articles within your personal Blog?

What if I tell you that you can submit your article in a complete different way, adding this new method to your Traffic Sources arsenal?

Have you heard before about eBook Marketing?

If not, I will enlighten you right away...

What if you grab one of your articles, and create an eBook from it? Are you getting the idea?

You can add a nice title, a table of contents... you can add some pictures (public domain or self-made) and Congratulations! You have just made an eBook from your article.

Of course you should make an eBook from an article that has 1000 words or more, because it has no sense to create a 3 paged eBook... Ok, you can do it, but personally if I am a visitor and I see an eBook with 3 pages, I will keep reading something else because it does not call my attention at all...

But If I see an eBook with a nice and catchy title, a table of contents, more than 15 pages, it will definitely call my attention, and so it will for your prospects!

So... what do you think about this? With a single article you have the opportunity to share it in another traffic source, to maximize your visibility chances even more...

You can add some affiliate link within the content, and also you can create a footer section with the URL of your blog, or your squeeze page. Use your imagination and you can do tons of things within the content of your eBook!

Ok... I've just created the eBook... so where can I upload it?

You can upload it into eBook Directories (search for "eBook Directories" in Google), just like Article Directories but for eBooks... more free targeted visitors for your business and even more exposure and back-links for your website!

There are many sites and this could be time-consuming, but it is really worth it, and many of them will make your eBook rank high in Google searches.

So... let's go back to the main topic, if you didn't know before about this traffic source, it's time to invest some time and create eBooks from your best articles don't you think?

I will give you one last TIP before I finish with this post today...

When you upload an eBook to an eBook Directory, you have to place a nice and catchy title to attract people's attention... but that's not all, some sites like Scribd will use this title to show the name of the eBook as a title in SERPS. So a bit of Keyword research won't be harmful...

Selling Ebooks Online And Marketing Them

Many people online love the idea of selling ebooks, but just as many people don't know how to sell them. Some people start off in some of the toughest niches on the planet - trying to go head-to-head with a major company who has been operating in a particular niche for the past 10 years.

If this describes you, then you should know that your ebook profits will come from going into a small niche, and making money that way. Can you succeed in a large, competitive niche? Sure. But is it advisable? No, it's not. Many people in the niche are already tuned in to the "guru" who has longevity in the niche. So when you come along, they will think that you have no relevant advice that they haven't heard before.

This is why you want to go into a niche in your business if you want to make money online with ebooks. I can remember a while back I went into the "video file converter" niche, and started to receive sales immediately (within 2 days) from the product that I was selling. I only used 1 traffic source to do this, and I'm convinced that you can do the same thing also.

A partial drawback of going into a small, targeted niche is that you have to create a product, create some sales copy, and drive tons of traffic back to your website. If you're not a pro in any of these things, you may have a slight problem on your hands. It's not a major problem, because all of these things can be done within a matter of days. But if you have no idea of where to start and how to look to solve this problem, a matter of days may turn into a matter of weeks.

And this is the gist of selling ebooks online. They're a great thing to do, and the lifestyle is incredible, but you may have a tough time getting started due to creating an ebook, and marketing it online. I once saw an ebook that promised 1001 ways to promote your ebook, but I'm here to tell you, that only 5 of those 1001 ways will bring you the most traffic.

You don't have to do a ton of different strategies to get traffic to your website. Stick with a consistent weekly marketing strategy, and you will be good to go. Selling ebooks are a great way to earn money without doing much except promoting it, and even this is easy. If you have money to test and spend on advertising (particularly pay per click), use it and see how it works for you.

Different people will get different results due to the niche that you're in and the product that you sell, but I'm convinced that almost an ebook of any kind can be sold online. You just need an incredible marketing plan on how to get sales with the ebook, and you will be good to go.

Think about these ideas and consider how you can implement them into your ebook business today. The sooner you take action, the sooner you'll be able to earn money from your ebook that you should be proud of.

Good luck with using these tips to sell your ebook today.

Using Free Marketing To Promote Your Ebook

There are many ways to profit with ebooks. I personally love ebooks because of the incredible lifestyle that it gives me. You can wake up with money in your inbox on autopilot. You can come and go as you please. You can maintain your customer service efforts via phone. And there's no boss over you telling you what to do. With all that said, I think now is a great time to start selling your own ebook right away.

Now with that being said, there are a lot of people who are struggling to get a lot of sales with their ebook. In fact, almost none of these people make money with their ebook. For whole entire year, they will have only made around $100 total from their ebook marketing efforts.

Now there are a ton of reasons why this can happen. Sometimes the person doesn't give their ebook business 110%. Most don't believe that free marketing works, and are convinced on the idea that paid marketing is the way to go. And some just simply put in no effort in learning about internet marketing and promoting their book online.

Quite simply, you can't make money this way. If you want to make money with your ebook, you need a supreme marketing strategy that is unrivaled with anyone else. Marketing plays a very important role when it comes to selling your ebook, and if you don't know how to sell and promote your ebook successfully, then this is a problem.

You should first start off researching and learning about the best free traffic strategies out there so that you can tap into these lucrative strategies that will bring your ebook the sales and profits that you have been looking forward to. Some of the best strategies out there are article marketing, forum marketing, video marketing, blog marketing, and search engine marketing. All of these traffic strategies can yield you a ton of traffic - but only if you're willing to put the work in to make your ebook business a success.

One thing that you can't afford to do is to make excuses. You have to be responsible for your own efforts and not blame the traffic techniques for not working. If you think that paid advertising is the way to go, then you should try it. But don't be surprised if you end up spending a lot of money on a traffic source that may or may-not be profitable for you.

I've been marketing my website for a short period of time now, and I can truly say that free marketing works. In fact, 98% of my traffic comes from free traffic methods. So that says something in and of itself. Don't get down on yourself if you've played the "pay per click" game and have come back unprofitable. Pick yourself up, and focus only on free strategies that can earn you the most traffic and money.

eBooks to Augmenting Your Online Marketing Campaign for Your Small Business

The other day, I was speaking to a young man who was building up his small online business, as he specializes in physical training, conditioning, and exercising endeavors. We had a dialogue about how to incorporate his writing, online articles, and knowledge into an eBook format to offer or give to his clientele as an incentive, also to promote his business and up his credibility and expert status. You see, he knows what he is good at, what he knows, and everything to do with the topic.

Now then, I do not believe it to be ethical to hype expertise - however, sometimes it makes sense to show what you know. My acquaintance indicated he did wish to put together eBooks but was sketchy on how to do that, or how to distribute them. He asks me two questions, perhaps they have been on your mind as well:

Do you have any tips on how to distribute eBooks?
How long do you think an eBook should generally be?

Okay so, my thinking on the eBook thing is two-fold, first, it seems that a simple 20-30 page book with some of his nutrition tips (articles) perhaps expanded, with some real-life stories makes sense. Then give it away for free if people sign up for your online newsletter.

Then a larger eBook 20,000 plus words for sale with the purchase of any services (free) or they can buy it stand alone for $29.95 and maybe you can allow others to sell it too, if they give you half the money or send someone to your secured server, then you give them half the money as a commission. Also list it on Amazon for $10 more, thus establishing a value, but if they buy it NOW it is less, or they get it free if they buy your other services.

Indeed, I would also write an eBook to help people start out, perhaps walking 2-3 miles per day, losing some weight, once they do move them up to a slow jog spurts within their walk, until they can run a mile, then two, then three, etc, and, as the weight comes off they will not screw up their knees etc. My acquaintance might use some other articles in his eBook if they make sense for him, by contacting the authors and promising to cite the source and get permission. In fact, it might help him get to the 20,000 words or assist in getting to 20-30 pages for the free-bee eBook.

Are you beginning to see the strategy here? All you probably need to get started are some eBook templates which you can get from Microsoft if you are using MS WORD at their online free-templates website, or email me and I will send you some that I have to assist. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
